Volunteer Center Manager

Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to creating a vibrant Jewish community in northern New Jersey. Federation cares for those in need, deepens engagement in Jewish life, and strengthens the bonds among Jews in northern New Jersey, in Israel, and around the world. Our primary functions are community planning and allocations, financial resource development, and leadership development.
Position Summary:
With a passion for the mission of Jewish Federation, the Volunteer Center Manager plays a crucial role in fostering a vibrant community of volunteers and Federation ambassadors. The Volunteer Center Manager will create, implement and execute year-round volunteer opportunities for Federation community members. These include the tentpole events of March Mega Food Drive, Purim Bags for Seniors, Supplies for Success, and Mitzvah Day, as well as smaller opportunities throughout the year.
The Volunteer Center Manager should be a creative thinker, with enthusiasm for motivating others. Furthermore, the Volunteer Center Manager proactively nurtures connections with potential donors and committed donors through participation in these events.
Responsibilities:
• Volunteer engagement including cultivation, stewardship, committee management
• Manage and execute hallmark events plus other projects throughout the year
• Grow volunteer opportunities to develop monthly volunteer engagement opportunities within Federation and/or with community beneficiary agencies
• Under the direction of the Development Director, execute corporate sponsorship activations and volunteer sponsorship programs
• Expand partnerships in the broader community
• Assist in the program’s fundraising activities by developing solicitation material, assisting with asks, and providing recognition opportunities
• Support and work with other departments to ensure volunteer center is a portal of entry for other leadership roles and activity in the organization.
• Reconcile all Volunteer Center events to ensure expenses and revenue align and meet established goals.
• Oversee, manage and grow Teen Leadership Program, including tracking hours and preparing community service letters for students
• Organize and implement annual Volunteer appreciation breakfast (tasks include coordinating invitation, guest speaker, and program agenda.)
• Identify and invite appropriate guest speakers to address Volunteer Center committee, to further engage and enhance volunteer experience
• In collaboration with Development Director, assist in writing and processing grant applications.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nonprofit management, business administration, communications, or a related discipline.
• A strong understanding of Jewish culture, values, and community dynamics would be highly beneficial.
• 3-5 years’ demonstrated experience in the non-profit space with emphasis on community engagement, project management, and/or event coordination.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
• Self-motivated, ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good sense of humor and a life-long learner.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, creatively, and flexibly in a dynamic environment.
• Strong personal commitment to Federation’s mission.
• Knowledge of local Jewish community a plus.
• Flexibility to work evenings and some Sundays.
• Must have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
